When Does the Trading Day Reset?
On this page
The trading day resets at 6:00 PM EST. Every figure measured per day — your end-of-day balance, the daily drawdown limit, winning days and the consistency calculation — runs from 6:00 PM EST to 6:00 PM EST.
What the 6:00 PM EST reset does
- Sets your end-of-day balance. The balance on the account when the server rolls over at 6:00 PM EST is the closing balance your trailing drawdown level is measured from. How end-of-day trailing drawdown works.
- Resets the daily drawdown limit. On funded accounts the daily drawdown allowance starts fresh at 6:00 PM EST.
- Closes off winning days. Whether a day counts as a winning day is decided by where the account stands at 6:00 PM EST.
- Fixes the days used for consistency. Your best day against your total profit is measured on those same 6:00 PM to 6:00 PM EST days. Consistency rule.
The reset is not the 4:10 PM auto-close
These are two different times. At 4:10 PM EST open positions are closed automatically for the day. The trading day itself does not turn over until 6:00 PM EST, which is also when the Globex session reopens and you can place trades again.
What does not reset
Your maximum drawdown level is not a daily figure. It moves up only when you close a day at a new high, and it is never reset by the daily rollover.
Working out 6:00 PM EST where you are
All times on this site are New York time. New York observes daylight saving, so the reset falls at 22:00 UTC in summer and 23:00 UTC in winter — but it is always 6:00 PM in New York.
